Why Are You Working Out?

Have you recently adopted a new diet and/or fitness regimen? If you answered yes to that question, why? Are you trying to lose weight and/or tone up for a special event or to look better in a bikini? While there’s certainly nothing wrong with having goals such as these, it’s important to remember that your overall goal—the one you strive for above all else—should be to be healthy. It’s all well and good to look “thin” and “toned,” but being healthy and fit is the most important thing of all.

In fact, focusing too hard on hitting a certain weight number or getting a “perfect” body part can be detrimental to your health and self-esteem, especially if you don’t get the exact results you want. Instead, it’s wise to set goals pertaining to health, not looks—goals like “not eating any junk food for the week” or “cutting out sugary sodas.” When you make good on a healthy goal, you can always reward yourself too!
